Plugged in

Since I can't get over the laziness of the American media, I find that I have to go abroad for a lot of news coverage. The BBC news page is a frequent stop, and I've noticed they have a new way to measure the zeitgeist—a live world map indicating which stories on their site are most popular, broken down by continent.

The top three items are ususally are constant across all continents, but after that it mixes up quite a bit. Somebody spent some time working on the dynamic movement of stories as they shift position--it's a nice little touch and it makes me wander around just to see what will move.

I've gone from never even knowing about a film to wanting to see it very badly in the space of about five minutes.

Danny Boyle's new film, Sunshine, sounds like he may have made it with me in mind. This Guardian review hits most of my major touchstones, from 2001 to Alien to KARL HYDE DOING THE FREAKING MUSIC.

It's also got Cillian Murphy and Michelle Yeoh in it, so I cannot see a downside. Unless it's the mentions of Event Horizon, because I want the two hours of my life back that I spent watching that thing. Gah.
