Life, the universe, everything

First off this morning I see that there's another really cool example of science, and how it works, bitches. (Third t-shirt down)

The Bad Astronomy Blog notes how scientists were able to map an asteroid and predict its increased rotation through something called the Yarkovsky-O’Keefe-Radzievskii-Paddack effect. Times like these I wish I were better at math.

It's not every day that a comment in a blog gets you to thinking, but today has been one of those days. As some of you may know, Steve Gilliard (of the News Blog) has been in the hospital for quite a while, had surgery, and is still under sedation.

One of the comments in the most recent post mentioned how the commenter was scared, and then this popped up.
It is important Cee, not to be afraid of what you can not control. Fear is a biological response to prepare you to fight or run when danger is present. There is no danger present here for you. This is out of your control. Allow it to be out of your control. Be present to the sensation of fear and to your lack of control over the outcome, and I promise the fear will go away.

Reading it again it's the Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear, only coming from a doctor and in a way I'd not quite thought about it before.

If later posts start talking about how the spice must flow, I will know that I really am unstuck in time.

why are paints named after foods?

While painting the house we've looked at a lot of paint samples. I can understand the need to be appealing in a color names, and you have to do something to differentiate between 30 shades of white. On the other hand, do paint manufacturers have to name every single shade after food? Paprika. Cocoa. Shiitake.

Perhaps instead of looking at colors I should have figured out which items would have made the best meal, and picked those colors for the walls.

I'm beginning to think that I need more storage. My attempt to catalog everything in the house with Delicious Library sorta fell by the wayside when I lost access to a scanner gun. I suppose I could get another one or switch to LibraryThing, but you know, effort.

The early transition to Daylight Savings Time is hitting me pretty hard this week. Of course it probably doesn't help that I'm going to bed at the "usual" time, just getting up an hour earlier. But hey, the internet doesn't click on itself.
